Drum Roll...

Ladies and Gentlemen,
My first completed knitted project EVAH...

I'm so completely giddy over this, you'd think I just finished painting the Mona Lisa.

And it has a heart...

A shabby little heart...
Lovingly sewn on with haphazard stitches...
(I only swore a little, but it was loving swearing.)

And it's PINK and everything!

I apologize if I seem a little immodest and braggy, but I tried HARD many times to learn how to knit, and I'm so happy I went all OCD persevered this time and it stuck. I could have knitted a dog turd and been overly-pleased with myself.

I take that back. I don't apologize at all.

Lunch Lady Can't Cook

The brownies were a big disappointment and turned out dry. I had the temp turned down to 335 to adjust for the non-stick pan, and they cooked very evenly and edges didn't get done too fast, but the whole thing was dry, dry, dry. I'm never making brownies from scratch again. You just can't beat the boxed mixes, and it's much easier!

Just thought I'd pop in and tell y'all that in case you were thinking of making them.

A Really Nice Day

 Mango-Cilantro Scented Candle
Surprisingly delicious-smelling!

That glove is twice as long now. Yipee!
The safety pins are marking my increases.
Who needs stitch markers?

Drinking some hot mocha with marshmallows...
And listening to my new Ed Sheeran CD.

Baking brownies during a break from knitting.
Recipe here:  Lunch Lady Brownies
I haven't baked anything in weeks!

I'm also marinating some thin, boneless pork chops in a sesame oil, soy sauce, sugar, garlic, etc. concoction for a stir-fry dinner. A neighbor was cooking something with sesame oil yesterday evening, and it was driving me wild because it smelled so good. I had to make some today. I hope I drive somebody else wild with the smells wafting from my house today.

The hand is good. The icing and resting did worlds of good, and before I started knitting today, I did some hand stretching exercises that Carollyn sent to me. She says they work and I hope they do.

I have the back door propped open so the dogs and wander in and out as they please today. It's in the mid-70s and sunny...another beautiful day. I'm sure it'll soon turn back to winter weather again, but not today.

I cleaned off my desk of the mail I had let stack up -- things that I knew were not important but needed to be dealt with. So it's all filed or thrown away and everything is in its place. I'm a good little secretary. It soon will be time to do our taxes, and we'll reap the benefits of that.

Oh, I saved this to show cracked me up!

It's a rat sweater!
I saw it on Ravelry while perusing the knitting patterns.
Look at those little toes!

If you get a chance, go over to Lunamon Design's Link Party and post a picture of one of your finished knit or crochet things. She's having it every Wednesday now. Her button is in my sidebar if you want to grab it. I have it sized smaller than hers if you prefer that.

Is 3:50 in the afternoon too early to put on my PJs? Well, that's exactly what I'm going to do. I'm done for the day, at least for anything I need to be dressed for. That didn't sound right.

See ya.

I Never Learn

This is my haul (minus the yarn) that I got at JoAnn and Michael's on Sunday. Then, like a dummy, I sat a knitted on the arm warmer in the first picture for 6-7 hours straight. Yes, it took me that long to knit those few inches.

I guess my hands were not used to the new motion of knitting, and I wrecked my right one to the point I couldn't work (type) yesterday. My palm throbbed and throbbed all day long. No amount of Tylenol and ibuprofen even touched it. The stupid thing is, I knew I should not have been knitting for that long and I was going to regret it. The Captain even came in the room and told me several times to stop, but I just kept right on going like a maniac.

Anyway, it's better today after icing it and resting it yesterday. I wore a tight fingerless glove on it all day, and that seemed to help me not move that wrist or move my hand as much as I would have without it.

That book, Take the Fear Out of Cables, is way over my head right now. I'm sure I'll use it some day, but for now, I'm going to stick to the basics.  That is, when I can pick up the needles and knit again without handicapping myself. I never learn. But I was excited! Sigh.

I thought this was a sweet picture of these three and their expectant faces. They were waiting patiently for me to open the door.

So beautiful and fragrant...I've enjoyed my hyacinths immensely.
I'm sure you can tell from all my pictures of them.

They are turning brown now and starting to die off. Which is what I thought my right hand was going to do yesterday. LOL.

I found that yarn I was looking for in the Bubble Gum color. It was Red Heart With Love instead of Hobby Lobby ILTY. No wonder I couldn't find it. Not sure what I'll make with it, but I got three skeins. This is how I've ended up with beaucoups of yarn stored all over the house. Another example of how I never learn.

I think I'm going to go get some more coffee or tea and watch some news coverage of the blizzard out east. I secretly wish I was in it. Inside, of course, with a big bay window and fire and electricity and water and food. And yarn!

Y'all stay safe and cozy!
See ya.

Are you Kidding Me?

No, I'm not kidding.
I kicked its ass yesterday!

Now I know you advanced knitters are not impressed with my little bit of basic knitting, but I am spectacularly, grinning-my-ass-off, overly-pleased as punch with myself!

Now what do I do? Of course, I think I can knit anything now. Heh-heh. Confident much? Just leave me alone with my fantasy for a little bit.

I'm so pleased, this gets a post all its own. See ya.

Look At My Balls!

Damn, that dust in those seams?
Nothing like showing your filth all over the Internet.
I swear it doesn't show up in person. It's the flash.

Do you love my pom-pom garland? I do! I saw them the other day on THIS BLOG and thought they were so cute and HAD to make some of my own to hang on the fireplace. It was nice to have it bare for a while after Christmas, but I'm in the mood for something more now.

I used two skeins of Knit Picks Brava Sport that I had in my stash. I would have made two more, but I ran out of that color of yarn (Camel Heather). It's got a greenish, khaki tint to it that doesn't show up in these pictures. It's a very weird color so I'm glad I found something to use it for. I wouldn't recommend buying it just from seeing the color here.

You can see I have a fire in the fireplace today. We had big, fat snowflakes this morning, but it's all turned to rain now. I think our high temp is in the lower 40s today. I'm going to sit here and get out those new knitting needles now. I keep saying that, but I never do. I swear I'm going to right now!

See ya later with something knitted!
Now why did I say that and commit myself?
Okay, bye.

A New Doily

The latest. It's a smallish one at 11.5 inches, but I love it.
I've made this one before in red and white.
It was the first doily pattern I ever made.
It's a freebie here:  Two-Tone Doily
I used a 1.75 mm hook and #10 thread.

Pat, I use THESE to block all my doilies.
Google "blocking mats" and you'll find different brands at different prices.

My hyacinth is doing great!
More flower buds are opening every day.
And you girls that have had hyacinths before were right...
It smells divine! Wow.
I'll definitely be getting more of these for my kitchen window.
It truly is a magic window. I've never been able to grow anything.
It's an east-facing window, in case you're curious.

I didn't do any knitting yesterday, but I did make lots of pom-poms. I had to watch THIS YouTube video to figure out how to use the pom-pom maker. The instructions on the back of the package were not very clear (at least not to me). But once I got started, I pom-pommed my ass off all evening. I'm making biggish ones for something fun. I'll show you when it's finished in a couple of days. I made 7 last night, and I need 7 more.

The doggies are all snoozing.

I'd better try and get some work done while they're quiet. Some days they drive me crazy wanting in and out or just wanting attention or to be held or to run around like wild cattle, and other days they are quiet and lazy. The weather is good enough most days where I can leave the door open for them to come and go as they please. Then I find leaves and sticks all over the house that they've brought in. They're so funny. What would I do without my little Banshees?

See ya.

Another Outing

Guess where I went today? Since I was out anyway, stopped in at Hobby Lobby and got all of the above. Yes, those are knitting needles. I'm trying yet again. You can't fail if you don't stop trying, right? Isn't that what they say? I'm following a series of tutorials, and she suggested some wooden, size 10.5 needles. They didn't have any 10.5 so I got 11s.

I also got the pom-pom makers and some pink yarn, just because I was feeling the pink today. I was really looking for a color called Bubble Gum, but they didn't have any. I got just plain pink.

I just finished pinning out a little somethin-somethin on the blocking board.
I'll show it to you tomorrow in all it's prettiness.

I was craving tuna, so I made a big tuna salad this morning.
With lots of boiled eggs, some onion, some celery, and mayo.
That sandwich is now on its way through my digestive tract.
Lordie, it was good!

The reason I was out again today is because I had to return my moccasins to Target. The size inside the box was not the size ON the box, and I didn't check that as I usually do. I was going to just trade them in for a bigger size, but they didn't have any bigger sizes in any of the three colors. Apparently they've had a run on moccasins since I bought mine on Friday. Everybody else liked them too. Boo-hoo! I just got my money back and pouted on my way to Hobby Lobby. I'm over it now since I have my new yarn and toys.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting lately. I love knowing you're all here! I've gotten some sweet messages and mail lately, which I greatly appreciate and get all choked up over. It means so much...

Like you, Dottie. I thought your message was so sweet, and it made me feel good that I could inspire someone like you to crochet a doily again!  I read each and every one of your messages, people. They really keep me going and make my day sometimes.

Someone asked about the pesto recipe the other day and whether another type of nut could be used. I'm going to make another recipe that is similar but uses toasted walnuts instead of pine nuts, so, yes, you can use other types of nuts.

I'm off to fumble and mumble around with those knitting needles and a YouTube video or two. When I tire of that, I'll be fumbling and mumbling with the pom-pom maker. Wish me luck!

See ya.

I came across THIS BLOG this morning and saw this video there. I loved the way it made me feel...calm, happy, sweet, simple, inspired. I'd love to meet this lady. If just one of you feels the way I did for the four minutes of this little video, it was worth sharing. I hope you love it.

See ya.

The Pesto and a Cheese Curd or Two

I happened to look outside yesterday evening to see this beautiful sunset, so I snapped a picture so y'all could enjoy it to. Isn't it amazing?

So here's the pesto pasta process from dinner I told you about.
See yesterday's post for the recipe link.

The verdict:  We both like it. We didn't love it, but we liked it. Something in there tasted slightly bitter, and I'm not sure what it was. All I could taste was basil and lemon. Maybe I'll use less basil next time and not zest the whole lemon...and add more garlic. I had a couple of bites a few minutes ago straight out of the fridge cold, and it tasted about the same. The recipe says you can serve it chilled or warm.

I printed out another Basil Pesto recipe earlier in the week. I'm going to try it too next time I get to the grocery store to get the ingredients.

I forgot that I got these cheese curds yesterday at Target too. Target is the only place I've seen them. They're over in the produce in the specialty cheese section. I'd never even eaten a cheese curd until a few months ago, and these are just delicious. A small handful of these with an apple or some green olives is a yummy snack.

I have nothing on the crochet front. I didn't pick up a hook yesterday at all because my shoulder decided to flare up, big-time, right after I posted. I have no idea what I did to aggravate it. Today it's not throbbing, but I'm being very careful not to use that arm much at all so I don't irritate it again. I sure am bored not being able to crochet.

A Hyacinth & A List of Stuff

I saw this hyacinth today at Target and grabbed it. It looks really healthy right now. Let's see if I can keep from killing it. The sign said "assorted," and I'm assuming that's referring to the color. Right now it looks like it might be white, but what do I know? I'm putting it in the magic kitchen window.

I also got the stuff to make a pesto pasta. I saw THIS RECIPE and haven't stopped thinking about it since. So I'm gonna make it for dinner tonight. I'll let you know. I like that it has lots of spinach and other good stuff in it.

Here's the slooow progress on my second poncho.
More green coming next.

No particular reason for this picture. It's a sewing machine cabinet that's next to my bed now. We rearranged the furniture in the bedroom a couple of days ago and it ended up in there. It's a sewing machine I never use that hubby bought me from Craig's List. It's an almost-never-used Kenmore from the '70s. Maybe some day I'll grow some patience and learn to sew and enjoy it.

So I bought two YELLOW (goldish really) rugs today...

Both for the kitchen.
(It bugs me that the rug is crooked in that picture.)
I've never bought ANYTHING yellow before.
It's not really my thing, yellow.

I kind of like them though.
It brightens up the place, but not too much.

What else did I get on my rare outing and shopping spree today?

1.'s a sickness! I love getting new sheets. (On clearance)
2.  Two small nut bowls for snacks. We had two and we use them so much, I bought two more.
3.  Yes, I'm going to list everything I bought because I'm boring like that.
4.  A pair of gray moccasins.  (On clearance, $10)
5.  One blueberry muffin, which I ate in the car on the way home because I hadn't eaten all day.
6.  Two movies for El Capitan. ($5 each, but it was buy one get one 1/2 off, so $7.50 for two) It'll keep him out of my hair. I'm sneaky like that. Hee-hee.
7.  I looked and looked for some cool candles and holders, but I didn't find what I wanted. I even stopped at Pier 1 on my way home to see if they had any...nope. I wanted some stubby-looking taper candles and holders, but they didn't have any. Maybe the ones I saw and had in mind had been lit already and burned down and that's why they looked stubby. Hmm.
8.  Baby Wipes for me, not a baby.
9.  I looked at the pillows because I need a new one (or two), but I suddenly got cheap and didn't get them. Stupid. So now I still need them.
10.  Two more metal mesh magazine holders for crochet pattern books. I already had five full.
11.  I also looked at a little wire, 3-drawer doo-lolly to keep stuff in next to my bed. It would have been perfect because they shut and Eli can't come in and steal all my stuff. I have LOTS of stuff I like to keep next to my bed -- fingernail polish, nail files, clippers, Benadryl, dental floss pick thingies, little scissors, a few cough drops, a couple of Q-tips, a pocket knife, tiny post-it notes, a pen and a pencil, reading glasses, a lighter, lip balm, and usually a crochet hook or two.  I need it ALL right at my fingertips, and I'm a fanatic about having it. Right now, I have to remove the container I keep it all in (with no lid) from the bedside table every day and put it where Eli can't get to it and then put it back at night. I ended up not getting the 3-drawer thing because I thought $9 was too much. Go figure. I wish I had it now.
12.  Jeez.  #11 went a little long to end up being nothing. I think that's all I got and all I wanted but didn't get.

I'm going to go put my long granny moo-moo dress on and get comfy. See ya.
